St Mary's Weekly Eco Tip:  Reduce food waste - Bread

Food Waste Action week is 17-23 March. Globally, one-third of food is wasted: its production causes 10% of carbon dioxide emissions. In the UK bread is the most wasted food, here are some tips to help reduce waste. Stale bread can be freshened by 10 seconds in a microwave, or if the oven is on sprinkle some water on the bread and give it a few minutes. You can make breadcrumbs from stale bread or crusts, which can be used in crumble tops, stuffing, sauces, etc or freeze them. Toast can also be made from stale or frozen bread, and also used as a ‘pizza’ base.  Stale bread can also be used to make bread and butter pudding.

Other tips to prevent food waste can be found here.
