Our story
Our story
All of us want somewhere to belong. For as long as people have been trying to find home in Islington, St Mary's has been there. And we are here for you, whether you want to explore faith and worship with us, to find a space to gather, or to be part of our pre-school community.
The Bible tells the story of God making a home for us. Each us of can call Islington home because God in Jesus Christ has called the world home. As a church, our vision is to live that story: to be a church calling Islington home.
Our values help us play our part in this story. They inform what we do and how we do it.
Commitment: We are committed to God, Islington, and one another. As a community, we seek to steward and develop our place at the heart of Islington.
Connection: We connect Islington to God and one another. Whether gathered and scattered, we seek to form life-changing and surprising relationships between people and God.
Care: In God’s strength, we care for Islington and one another. We seek to make our site and Islington places where all ages can flourish. We want to recognise others' gifts and use our gifts in service.
That's the kind of community we're hoping to become. But if you really want to get to know us, come and join us on Sundays at 11am or throughout the week. We'd love to be a part of your story.
Want to find out how we have called Islington home in the past? The Wikipedia page for St Mary Islington is a great place to start. S Allen Chambers Jr. wrote a very full account of the history of the church in 2004.
Vision & Mission strategy
Our vision is to be a church 'calling Islington home'. Our mission strategy will help us make this vision a reality. It is framed by our shared values of commitment, connection and caring, and built on our foundations of prayer, safeguarding, being a good employer, and caring for creation.
As we work together to call Islington home, this strategy will give us focus as we seek to grow as disciples of Jesus.
