St Mary's Weekly Eco Tip: Lent

Jesus resisted worldly temptations during his 40 days in the wilderness; Lent is a time for self-discipline and self-improvement. Franciscans suggest Lent as a time to learn how to live plastic-free. When buying, always ask yourself whether you really need it.

Buy fruit, vegetables, meat etc that are not wrapped in plastic. Buy other produce in paper or glass, not plastic. Buy soap in bars, not plastic dispensers. Replace cling film with beeswax wrap and try not to buy water in plastic bottles – use a steel one.

Never use single-use plastics – cups, straws or cutlery. Psalm 148, all Nature’s praise of the Lord, contains no plastic.
