Freecycle is great for giving and getting free stuff locally.

From cradle to grave, much of the stuff we buy has a big carbon footprint. Second-hand is a greener option. And you'll find affordable prices at community furniture stores and charity shops.

Consider pooling resources with neighbours so that you can share things like lawn mowers and power tools.

Remember also another sense of the phrase ‘from cradle to grave’: most manufacturers expect their products to be thrown away after a short life. Look instead for those designed so that all their parts can be reused or recycled: ‘from cradle to cradle’.
