St Mary Islington hosts priesting service for 17 ordinands across Two Cities and Stepney areas
On Saturday 17 June St. Mary's Church, Upper Street welcomed over 450 people to the ordination of priests by The Rt Revd and Rt Hon. Dame Sarah Mullally, Bishop of London. 17 ordinands were ordained as priests and are now able to offer communion at church services and officiate at wedding ceremonies. Two of those being ordained, Freya Bradley and Josh Richards, are currently serving as curates at St Mary's on Upper Street.
Family and friends of the ordinands, the Bishop of Stepney and visiting clergy all attended the special service along with members of St Mary Islington and other local churches. They offered their prayers and support to the 17 candidates serving in the Stepney Episcopal Area and in the Two Cities Episcopal Area.
Rev James Hughesdon, Vicar at St Mary’s, said: "It was a joy to host this wonderful occasion at St Mary’s and would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to the ordinands. Their ordinations are a witness to the work of God and the thriving life of the Church of England in London."
