St Mary's Weekly Eco Tip: Recycling Clothes

In 2020 Islington Council teamed up with Traid textile recyclers to have 36 collection points in Islington for clothes, shoes and textiles. In the first nine months, about 400,000 garments were collected which saved over 1,000 tons of carbon dioxide.

Traid offers a free collection service of your unwanted textiles from your door. This would suit residents who have a lot of clothes to donate at one time. Complete the booking form or telephone Traid on 020 8733 2595.

Renting clothes not just for special occasions is growing fast: see secondouting.com, loanhood.com or hurrcollective.com. So is buying ‘pre-loved fashion’: see, eg, vinted.co.uk or thredup.com. If your second-hand or other clothes need repairs or alterations, Sojo is a new app to help you find a seamster in inner London.
