Eco tip: Food waste

Food waste

Globally, one-third of food is wasted. In the UK, half is wasted in the home; most goes to landfill to decay to methane, a powerful greenhouse gas. The solution? Plan meals and food shopping. The TooGoodToGo app offers, at a reduced price, food from shops and meals from restaurants that would be wasted; what you collect is pot luck. The Felix Project gets food from supermarkets to give to charities, foodbanks and the homeless. It is London-based and volunteers are always needed. Olio connects neighbours and communities to give unwanted food and other items to those who can use them.

The St Mary’s weekly newsletter features regular eco tips.
