Eco tip: Saving energy

Saving energy

LED (light emitting diode) lights are now quite cheap: you can change all the bulbs in an average house/flat for £50-100.  LEDs use ~10% of the power of pearl bulbs, so the initial cost could be saved in a year, and they last for years.  Switch off lights when leaving a room: restarting one uses little extra energy.  Turn off TVs and computers not in use: leave a 1watt standby light on all year and it uses 9 kilowatt hours (over £2-worth) of electricity.
