Eco tip: The Jump

Take The Jump: Six shifts to protect our Earth and live with Joy.

Research into lifestyle changes finds that six commitments by everyone in wealthier countries (e.g. the UK) would provide a quarter of the total reduction in carbon emissions needed to limit heating to 1.5°C. ‘The Jump’ campaign asks people to sign up to:

  • eat a mainly plant-based diet with no waste;

  • buy no more than three new items of clothing a year;

  • keep electrical goods for at least seven years;

  • take at most one short-haul flight every three years, and one long-haul flight every eight years;

  • get rid of personal motor vehicles if you can; if not, keep your existing vehicle longer;

  • make at least one change to nudge the system, e.g. insulate your house or change to a green energy supplier.
