Praying In Lent

Lent is a special time to reflect on our spiritual journey and to find ways to grow closer to God.

Prayer is one of the most powerful ways to deepen our faith. Prayer is a conversation with God, a time to open our hearts and minds to God’s love and grace. It's a way to express our gratitude, confess our sins, and ask for God’s guidance and blessings. Through prayer, we can find peace, strength, and hope in the midst of our daily struggles.

For those of us at St Mary's Islington there are many opportunities to engage in prayer: attend regular Sunday services; participate in small prayer groups; pray on our own; join the Ministry team for Morning Prayer. Morning Prayer takes place at St Mary’s at 9.30am Monday-Friday and the church is open daily 9.30am - 4.30pm for quiet prayer and refection. Whatever your preference, we encourage you to make prayer a regular part of your routine.

To help us in our prayer journey, the Church of England offers a wealth of resources. You can access daily prayers, meditations, and reflections via their website. There are also apps available, such as the ‘Time to Pray’ app, which provide simple structures for daily prayer.

As we journey through Lent, let us commit ourselves to a deeper prayer life. Let us open our hearts to God's love and grace, and seek His guidance and blessings. Let us support each other in prayer, and grow together in faith.

May this season of Lent be a time of renewal and growth in our spiritual lives.
