Harvest and confirmation celebrations at St Mary’s

Seven step into the abundance of God's love at special harvest festival service on Sunday 1 October

St Mary's had a particularly joyful Harvest service this year as seven of the congregation were confirmed by the Right Reverend Dr Joanne Grenfell, the Bishop of Stepney. One of the candidates was also baptised by Bishop Joanne in the same service.

In her sermon, Bishop Joanne spoke of God's abundant love, seen in both creation and in the Spirit's work in baptism and confirmation. She challenged the candidates and congregation to step more deeply into God's love. In particular, Bishop Joanne asked everyone to consider the steps they can take to better care for the whole of creation.

Many of the candidates spoke of how important being part of a church community had been in coming to know, whether for the first time or in a deeper way, the unconditioned gift of God in Jesus Christ.
