Summer 2024 sermon series at St Mary’s: Sermon on the Mount

How do we actually become more like Jesus?

This summer we will highlight three opportunities to engage further with this question.

  1. Sermon series at services over the summer
The Sermon of the Mount is one of the most provocative and influential texts in the Bible. It has inspired a huge amount of reflection. At our Sunday services in June, July and August, we will seek to answer this question by exploring the ‘Sermon on the Mount’,

Matthew 5-7 and Paul's letter to the Ephesians.

You might want to read through the Sermon on the Mount and / or Ephesians on a weekly basis over the summer. However, If you have more time and are looking for some longer reading engaging the Sermon on the Mount we can recommend: Dietrich Bonhoeffer's Cost of Discipleship and Dallas Willard's The Divine Conspiracy.

  2. Attend
Practicing the Way is an eight-week course on spiritual formation. Regardless of how long you have been following Christ, this course will help you identify concrete steps to deepen your discipleship.

The course will take place on Sundays in June and July, starting Sunday 2 June.

Sessions will: begin at 2pm; take place in the church crypt; and last between 60 and 90 minutes.

Email josh.richards@stmaryislington.org for more information or to sign up to the group.

  3. Watch
Bible Project has a range of videos and podcasts on the Sermon on the Mount. If something in a sermon piques your interest and you want to study a particular passage more deeply Bible Project—particularly their podcast—is a great place to start.
