This week's eco tip from St Mary's: Energy saving

As days get shorter, more energy is used for heat and light. Saving energy reduces bills, and moves us closer to needing renewable energy only: so we need to be aware of energy use. Air is a good heat insulator. Draw curtains as soon as it is dark, to trap a layer of air. If double glazing is not possible, tape polythene sheeting over any window where you don’t need a clear winter view.

Except for the old and infirm, thermostats need not be above 20C (68F); if that feels cold, wear another layer of clothes to trap more air around your body.

The St Mary’s weekly newsletter features regular eco tips.
