St Mary’s Festival: St Mary's Repair Shop

St Mary’s Festival will host an Repair Shop event on Thursday 26 September from 4-8pm.

Repair specialists from around Islington will help people fix their broken belongings – from tables to toasters, laptops to crop tops, shirts to chairs and bikes to lights. The event will help people save money, reduce waste, and extend the life of their belongings.

All are welcome to meet, mingle and share in the fun of repair.

It is a free, drop in event and you do not need a ticket. Refreshments will be provided.

After Noah : Since the 1930s, the After Noah family has been restoring antique and vintage furniture and Oscar is the fourth generation to carry on the tradition. They gently nurse damaged, worn and broken furniture back to health, preserving as much of the original piece as possible and enhancing the natural patination and colour, built-up over years. They will be giving visitors help and advice about any furniture that means something to them, perhaps something they’ve recently purchased for their home, or an old family heirloom, recently acquired. Whether a wobbly chair, a side table that needs French polishing, or providing an estimate for reupholstering their sofa, or turning a new leg for a dining table. They will be chatting about techniques and offering advice for how best to take care of the pieces they cherish most in their homes.

Computer Precision : Computer Precision are a very long-established IT support business on Upper Street providing expert support to business networks and home users at very reasonable cost. If your PC has stopped working, or has gone slow, or malfunctioning they have the tools and expertise to get it back to optimal. Bring your faulty laptop to the CiPi experts at our Repair Shop for expert advice and simple solutions.

Cycle Islington : Bike repairs with Dr Bike and information about cycling in Islington and beyond. There will be games for children to ensure everyone is amused whilst bikes are being fixed.

Home of Sustainable Things : The Home of Sustainable Things (HOST) will present a curated selection of sophisticated, circular design pieces, crafted from recycled or upcycled materials by artisans and designers committed to environmentally responsible materials and methods. This collection reflects the distinctive and pioneering design ethos that HOST has championed since 2018, emphasising minimal environmental impact and ethical production, supporting positive change for local communities and the environment.

Islington Climate Centre is a hub for local community groups and residents who want to address the impact of the changing climate in Islington and Islington Environmental Alliance brings together people to help with achieving the aims of Islington Council Vision 2030. Together they will host a stall giving people information about what they can do to slow climate change in Islington and beyond. Bring along a tote bag or Tshirt and they will block print in for you for free!

Make a blanket for charity: Take some time to sit and sew up hand knitted squares into a blanket which will be donated to charity. Knitted squares and advice supplied.

Islington Fixers: Bring along any broken electrical item/s (toasters, lamps, toasters, kettles, hoovers etc.) to be fixed by an local expert

Ray Stitch : Boutique haberdashery and fabric shop on Essex Road offering a variety of workshops to learn sewing, pattern cutting & embroidery. Helping people learn how to sew a button, take up and hem fix a holey jumper or expand your haberdashery knowledge with the wonderful team from Ray Stitch who will be able to answer all your questions about wool, seams, hems, patterns, stitches and much, much more.
